ABOUT ROB CARD

Coaching from the heart.

With over two decades of leadership experience across Fortune 500 companies, private equity-backed firms, and VC-funded startups, I’ve led national sales teams, launched innovative technologies, and scaled high-growth organizations. I've built and rebuilt sales teams, delivered consistent revenue growth, and managed portfolios exceeding $500M, all while navigating the complexities of commercialization, organizational change, and executive collaboration.  I’ve learned that sustainable growth starts with connection, clarity, and confidence.

I stepped into leadership assuming the hardest part would be the work. I learned quickly that the work is manageable. The real challenge is the people, the pressure, the uncertainty, and the situations no new leader is prepared for.  Early in my career, I was asked to lead former peers who were older and more experienced, quietly evaluating whether I was ready. And across eight promotions and eight companies, from start-ups to global organizations, I found myself facing moments that tested me in ways I couldn’t have anticipated.

I encountered leaders who manipulated, bullied, lied, were absent or struggled for a number of reasons. A senior leader told me that an executive had falsified audit documents. I witnessed the results of private decisions that put patients at risk because critical processes were overlooked.

These were challenging situations, the kind that make you question your footing.

On the outside, I looked steady. Inside, I was losing sleep and carrying the same questions most leaders keep to themselves: Am I doing this right? Do I need to be tougher? What if I’m not capable of the hard calls? What if I fail?

And alongside these moments, I had great leaders and mentors whom I respected, people who modeled integrity, courage, humility, and care. They shaped me just as much, if not more, than the difficult experiences. Over time, I learned that we grow from both the challenges that stretch us and the people who lift us.

The shift for me began early in my career when I brought a problematic situation to my leader. I laid it all out, expecting clear direction. She listened, paused, and asked me one question that changed the trajectory of my leadership:

“What are you going to do about it?”

That moment taught me something essential:
Leadership is about many things, mostly our choices. Leadership isn’t about presenting problems; it’s about owning them.
And ownership is foundational to the clarity, connection, and confidence needed to lead well.

As I stepped into larger roles and more complex environments, I discovered something even more foundational: You cannot lead others until you can lead yourself.

And leading yourself requires being grounded in three things:

Preferences — what energizes you (useful to know, not defining)

Values — your non-negotiables

Principles — how you make decisions under pressure

This awareness didn’t appear all at once. It matured through real challenges, honest reflection, and a lot of trial and error. I spent my career evolving while holding onto one belief: we always have a choice about how we show up, and those choices are intentional and aligned with our values and principles.

Each role, each mentor, and each setback added clarity to the kind of leader I wanted to be.

This evolution, the hard lessons, and the generous guidance are at the heart of my coaching and the New Leader Activation program.

Leadership is human.
It starts with knowing yourself.
It comes alive through listening, connection, clarity, and intention.
And it endures through principles you can stand behind, especially when pressure runs high.

If you’re stepping into a new role or want to lead with more clarity, confidence, and alignment than I had early on, I’d be honored to support your journey.

My coaching is pragmatic and results-oriented, rooted in decades of firsthand experience and informed by formal training. I hold a Master’s in Organizational Leadership, am a Certified Professional Coach (CPC), and maintain ICF certification. My specialties include new leader activation, building and leading sales teams, performance management, culture transformation, and navigating complex team dynamics. Whether supporting leaders through transitions or helping them unlock breakthrough performance, I bring a steady hand, a strategic mind, and a belief that growth always begins on the inside.

Beyond my coaching practice, I channel my passion for developing potential through my work with Breakthrough T1D, funding essential Type 1 Diabetes research, and leading a baseball program for children with learning differences. You'll find me hiking mountain trails, cycling coastal routes, or skiing with my family when not coaching.

Based in Connecticut, I work with clients both in-person and virtually globally.
